For all your ISBN needs.
While some sites will provide your book with an ISBN at a cost or in exchange for some rights with the work, you can always purchase your own ISBNs. We recommend buying in bulk as every edition of every book requires its own ISBN. Think of selling one book in paperback, hardcover, ebook, and audio formats.
Free publishing for Kindle & Paperback
Amazon’s KDP service is phenomenal for starting authors in that it’s easy to use and you can get your work on Amazon’s site in no time. However, all of the formatting, cover design, and marketing falls on the author. The quality of the book depends entirely on the time you’re willing to put into it.
Free eBook Publishing
Smashwords is an excellent, free alternative to Amazon’s KDP, although it’s limited to ebooks. Options are somewhat limited, but your ebook will be available through multiple online retailers, excluding Amazon.
Paperback, Hardcover, and ebook services
IngramSpark is not free but they do produce high quality books with a lot of options. They charge for title setup and have some fees, but nothing outlandish. They also frequently have coupon codes on assorted sites to wave some of the costs.
Audiobooks
ACX allows authors to upload audio files for their own books, or audition narrators to produce audiobooks for them. Books produced are available on Audible and iTunes.
